About the position

The Department of Anatomy & Physiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University is seeking a dedicated Research Assistant to join their team. This position is essential for supporting ongoing research projects and will involve a variety of responsibilities aimed at advancing the department's research goals. The Research Assistant will work closely under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) to plan and conduct experiments that are critical to the research initiatives. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, as the individual will be responsible for maintaining accurate laboratory records, which are vital for the integrity of the research process. In addition to conducting experiments, the Research Assistant will assist the PI in preparing research proposals and manuscripts, contributing to the academic output of the department. This includes drafting sections of proposals, compiling data, and ensuring that all documentation meets the required standards for submission. The role also involves monitoring and ordering laboratory supplies, ensuring that the research team has the necessary materials to conduct their work without interruption. The successful candidate will play a key role in facilitating the smooth operation of the laboratory and supporting the research objectives of the department. Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct experiments under the supervision of the PI.
  • Keep accurate laboratory records.
  • Assist the PI in preparing research proposals and manuscripts.
  • Monitor and order laboratory supplies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1 year working experience in viral disease diagnostic assay and/or vaccine development research (preferred).
  • Good oral and written communication skills (preferred).
  • Working experience in a BSL-2 research facility with swine viral pathogen diagnosis, virus-host interaction, swine pathology training, and developing molecular diagnostic methods (preferred).
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
