About the position

The Center for Cancer Cell Biology, Immunology & Infection at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant to support various research tasks in the laboratory. This position can be part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate's availability. The Laboratory Assistant will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to maintain a mouse colony, prepare lab stock solutions, and assist in organizing and maintaining lab inventory across various temperature-controlled freezers. The role also involves performing a variety of experiments under the supervision of the PI, utilizing techniques from biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology, including Western blotting, PCR, cloning, and plasmid purification. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research environment that emphasizes collaboration and innovation. Responsibilities

  • Maintain mouse colony including breeding setup, collect tissues and genotyping by PCR
  • Prepare shared lab stock solutions and fill tips
  • Organize and maintain lab inventory (4 degree, -20, and -80 freezers)
  • Fill liquid nitrogen tanks
  • Perform a variety of experiments under the PI's supervision, including biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology techniques (Western blot, PCR, cloning, plasmid purification)

Requirements

  • College-level biology classes
  • Basic Microsoft skills
  • Ability to lift 8 liter solution

Nice-to-haves

  • Undergraduate degree in Biology or Chemistry
  • Prior experience in biology or molecular biology research laboratory
  • Prior experience with mice, if not, willing to be trained
