About the position

The Research Assistant (RA) program at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston is a two-year program aimed at recent college graduates with backgrounds in economics, math, statistics, or related fields. RAs collaborate with economists on various research projects, providing essential technical and analytical support for the analysis of economic conditions and monetary policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality technical and analytical support in data acquisition and analysis for research economists.
  • Search for and obtain data and literature from various online and published sources.
  • Assess the reliability of data and present it in an interpretable format for economists.
  • Design programs to manipulate data, perform statistical tests, and run regressions.
  • Update and maintain regularly used data series for economists.
  • Prepare charts and tables using spreadsheet and graphic software for publications and presentations.
  • Summarize data analysis and literature reviews in written form for economists.
  • Answer public information calls and provide assistance as needed.
  • Proofread, edit, fact-check, summarize, and comment on articles and papers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience with statistical software packages and a solid understanding of statistics and econometrics.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior research assistant experience preferred.
