About The Position

The Research Assistant at Texas A&M University - Kingsville will perform independent and supervisory roles in research activities, requiring advanced knowledge in scientific fields. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.

  • Knowledge in citrus breeding techniques and procedures.
  • Experience in citrus nursery and orchard management practices.
  • Prior lab experience in plant stress physiology, transcriptomic analysis, molecular biology, and biochemistry analysis.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer and applicable software to create databases, present data, and perform other computer-related tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, planning, and coordinating of experiments in support of various research projects.
  • Conduct breeding of citrus rootstocks and scions.
  • Select and apply standard techniques of routine research and keep detailed records of data.
  • Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.
  • Evaluate and summarize results.
  • Assist in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects.
  • Assist undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and/or repair research equipment.
  • Assist with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform real-time PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction, and other molecular biology techniques.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of nutrition programs in suppressing citrus disease and under abiotic stresses in field conditions, and maintain plants in the greenhouse.
