About the position

The Research Assistant position at Scripps College involves supporting the author Suzanne Ely Muchnic in her project to document the history of the College, coinciding with its 100th anniversary in 2026. The role focuses on researching, locating, digitizing, and uploading images for the book, utilizing various resources including the Claremont Colleges Digital Library and the College's archives. The ideal candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about Scripps' history.

Responsibilities

• Locate and procure images from a list of requested images for the book project.
• Conduct searches for images using online CCDL, non-digitized images in Denison Library, and external sources as needed.
• Clear and negotiate rights for the reproduction of images as necessary.
• Upload high-resolution digitized images to shared storage space in .tiff format.
• Scan and upload non-digitized images to shared storage space in .tiff format.
• Develop and execute an organizational structure for image storage, including standardizing file names and creating folders that correspond to sections of the book.
• Track information for each image, including title, date, subject identification, photographer, source, and copyright information.
• Support the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in job performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to organize and track information with precise attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercising excellent judgment and discretion.
• Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is a plus.
