The Research Assistant position at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science is a part-time role focused on supporting qualitative research in academic medicine. Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with study participants, including medical students, residents, and faculty.
  • Transcribe and code qualitative data accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all data collection activities and ensure compliance with ethical and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assist in the development of coding schemes and participate in thematic analysis using qualitative data analysis software (ATLAS.ti).
  • Summarize key findings and assist in the interpretation of results under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
  • Coordinate participant recruitment, scheduling, and follow-up communications.
  • Prepare and submit Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, amendments, and continuing reviews as needed.
  • Maintain and update study-related documentation and databases.
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings to support the study's conceptual framework and contextual understanding.
  • Assist in the preparation of manuscripts, conference presentations, and other dissemination activities.
  • Coordinate team meetings, take meeting minutes, and track project timelines and milestones.
  • Provide general administrative support to the research team as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline).
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in qualitative research, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Familiarity with qualitative research methods, including interview techniques and thematic analysis.
  • Experience with qualitative data analysis software (ATLAS.ti) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
