About the position

As a Research Assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, you will support academic research and policy work by staff economists through analytical skills in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. This entry-level position is part of a two-year program, requiring a commitment to work with various economists on topics such as micro and macroeconomics, finance, and economic inequality. The role involves conducting quantitative research analyses, developing code for model estimation, and preparing briefings, providing valuable experience for future graduate studies or careers in industry and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct statistical and economic analyses of current macroeconomic, microeconomic, and regional data.
  • Support economists in their basic and applied research by collecting data and conducting moderately complex statistical analysis.
  • Write code for model estimation and organize the presentation of results.
  • Prepare charts, tables, and descriptive text for briefings of the President and the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with economists at all stages of the research process, including literature reviews and data analyses.
  • Recommend, initiate, plan, and execute research projects under the guidance of manager and department researchers.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a strong quantitative background (econometrics, statistics, advanced calculus, or computer programming).
  • Evidence of aptitude for quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Exposure to and experience using data/programming languages.
  • Demonstrated interest in economics.
  • Knowledge of and experience applying economic theory and quantitative analysis techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with statistical programs such as R, Python, STATA, MATLAB, ArcGIS.
