About the position

ECS Federal LLC is seeking a Research Associate, Aquaculture Social Scientist to support NOAA Fisheries in conducting social impact analyses related to aquaculture. This role focuses on evaluating social trade-offs and potential issues in the context of Aquaculture Opportunity Areas (AOAs) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The position aims to inform the identification of AOAs, support NEPA implementation, and analyze public perceptions to enhance education and outreach efforts in ecosystem-based management of aquaculture.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct social impact analyses focused on aquaculture to evaluate social trade-offs and potential issues.
  • Develop and apply tools to measure and evaluate social impacts of aquaculture at national and regional scales.
  • Collaborate with NOAA's Office of Aquaculture and other stakeholders to link social science with siting analysis tools.
  • Identify and apply social impact and trade-off analyses to NEPA processes, including assessments of environmental justice impacts.

Requirements

  • Experience in social science research, particularly in the context of environmental policy and aquaculture.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate social impacts and trade-offs.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies and local communities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with NOAA Fisheries policies and ecosystem-based management principles.
