About the position

The Research Associate II position at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center involves managing a colony of Xenopus frogs to study the molecular mechanisms behind birth defects. The role includes performing laboratory tasks, developing technical expertise, and participating in various research activities under direct supervision. The associate will also assist in maintaining laboratory operations and preparing data for publication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the aquatics housing a colony of frogs, including caring for adult frogs and rearing tadpoles to adulthood.
  • Perform increasingly complex experimental protocols and assist in designing new protocols and techniques.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of experiments and results, troubleshooting unexpected results as needed.
  • Order laboratory supplies and support laboratory operations.
  • Maintain lab equipment and related records, coordinating the use of lab equipment as required.
  • Assist in the operation of specialized equipment relevant to the research area.
  • Prepare data for publication and/or presentation at scholarly meetings.
  • Observe and comply with safety standards and procedures.
  • Orient research laboratory assistants or lower-level research associates and undergraduate student researchers on day-to-day lab operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a science-related field required.
  • One (1) year of research laboratory experience required.
  • Familiarity with routine laboratory procedures, experimental protocols, and overall lab organization is essential.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, and organization skills are required.
  • Ability to work across company disciplines and functional units.
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Excel and Word are necessary.
  • Ability to manage multiple clerical tasks simultaneously with attention to detail.
