About the position

The Research Associate II position at Houston Methodist Academic Institute is responsible for conducting advanced laboratory experiments on research projects with minimal supervision. This role involves providing advanced technical research skills, establishing test methods and procedures, and evaluating results under the direction of the Department Chairperson or Scientist. The position also includes oversight and guidance to other associates, contributing to a collaborative and positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced laboratory experiments on research projects with minimal supervision.
  • Evaluate results of processes and summarize data for research grants and publications.
  • Monitor a team of Research Assistants and Post Docs in scientific activities.
  • Organize workflow, proactively problem solve, and manage multiple ongoing priorities at the direction of the PI/Faculty.
  • Write and maintain regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols.
  • Establish and maintain quality control of project operations and experimental procedures.
  • Participate in publication and grant writing at the direction of the PI/Faculty.
  • Assist in developing skills of lab team members in alignment with scientific objectives.

Requirements

  • Terminal Degree with six years' post-doctoral experience or a Master of Science degree with nine years' research experience.
  • Demonstrated skills and competencies necessary to safely perform assigned job duties.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Ability to initiate and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to deal with high volumes and rigid deadlines.
