About the position

The Research Associate III position at UTMB Health focuses on conducting non-routine research assignments and experiments in the field of neurobiology. The role involves planning, coordinating, and directing moderately complex research experiments, ensuring quality control, and contributing to scientific analysis and interpretation of data. The position requires a strong background in basic science and offers opportunities for guiding junior staff and overseeing laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and directs moderately complex research experiments following general technical procedures.
  • Establishes and oversees quality control measures for assigned project operations.
  • Makes modifications to research procedures as determined by the Principal Investigator.
  • Contributes to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects.
  • Maintains records of all tests performed and data collected, compiles and tabulates data, and provides analysis of results.
  • Confers with lab staff regarding results obtained and receives suggestions for modification to procedures and interpretation of final data.
  • Ensures the accurate assembly, calibration, operation, and modification of a variety of laboratory equipment as defined by appropriate guidelines.
  • Makes minor modifications and repairs to equipment as necessary.
  • Independently performs literature searches as outlined by the Principal Investigator.
  • Oversees lab inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • May provide guidance to junior research staff.
  • Adheres to internal controls established for the department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in basic science or equivalent and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's degree in basic science or equivalent and 3 years of related experience required.
  • Strong data analysis skills.
  • Technical writing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in animal science/care.
  • Experience with surgery and biological assays.
  • Skills in quantitative and qualitative analysis.
