About the position

The Research Associate III position at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine involves conducting advanced research and development in collaboration with scientific and technical staff. The role focuses on supporting the Brain Tissue Repository (BTR) to enhance understanding of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and promote brain health among military personnel. The position requires technical expertise in laboratory procedures, data analysis, and mentoring junior staff, contributing to the advancement of military medicine through scientific research.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex data analysis and interpretation on Xenium and Chromium systems, verifying and correcting data entry.
  • Conduct complex laboratory tests and analyses involving multiple procedures and technical approaches.
  • Develop methods and procedures for experiments and investigations.
  • Write and assist with experimental results for publication in technical and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Analyze and prepare reagent and/or assay product documentation.
  • Organize and procure needed reagents, perform experiments, analyze data, and document results.
  • Document current or new procedures or protocols for sample selection, data collection, data processing, and/or statistical estimation.
  • Mentor, review, and supervise junior laboratory staff in the planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
  • Attend and participate in required training for the role.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in clinical research or laboratory settings.
  • Knowledge of extremely complex laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to meet project deadlines.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of single cell genomics.
  • Experience with advanced microscopy and immunohistochemical staining.
  • Familiarity with digital pathology and clinical research digitization.
  • Familiarity with MBF Neurolucida, Amaris, and Arivis.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in mentoring junior staff.
  • Familiarity with traumatic brain injury research.
