About the position

The Research Associate in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center plays a crucial role in small molecule drug development, focusing on preclinical drug development in animal models. The position involves pharmacokinetic assessments, modeling, simulation, and bioanalytical analysis using advanced techniques such as liquid-chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform research work in the laboratory and provide scientific expertise on planning experiments related to assigned research projects.
  • Plan, execute, document, and analyze in vitro and in vivo studies in pharmacokinetics and drug metabolism.
  • Perform pharmacokinetic analyses and population pharmacokinetic modeling using software packages including Phoenix WinNonlin, NONMEM, and R.
  • Develop and validate LC-MS/MS assays and analyze biological samples.
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day activities for the assigned lab space.
  • Mentor and train graduate students and junior postdocs in pharmacokinetic and bioanalytical techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with all experimentation requirements and gain necessary approvals.
  • Present research data at scientific meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations for publication in scientific journals/conferences.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Life Science, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in animal-based pharmacokinetic research or related duties.
  • Completion of three (3) years as a Post Doctoral Scholar.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to independently plan, develop, standardize, validate, and document LC-MS/MS based assays.
  • Knowledge in handling and utilizing pharmacokinetic animal models.
  • Proficiency in population pharmacokinetic analysis techniques.
  • Strong communication skills in oral and written form.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pharmacometrics techniques.
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance in research settings.
