About the position

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc., a leading investment bank, is currently seeking an equity research associate to support the award-winning SaaS/Applications Software franchise. This position is located in either San Francisco or New York City. The ideal candidate for this role has experience as an equity research associate in technology or another sector and is looking to transition into covering the software industry. Alternatively, candidates with a strong background in finance and accounting, along with proficiency in modeling complex businesses, are also encouraged to apply. Strong modeling skills are essential for this position. Candidates should have prior experience analyzing or managing financial statements or quarterly earnings reports, ideally within a wealth management institution, investment bank, accounting firm, or a finance department. While exposure to the software industry and equity research is advantageous, all qualified candidates will be considered. The research associate will be part of a small team and will work closely with the senior analyst on various aspects of developing and marketing equity research products, including research reports, financial models, and industry analysis. This role requires independence, initiative, and a willingness to travel to industry events. The associate will take on significant responsibilities, including financial model building and updating, report writing, and other related duties. Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to multi-task are critical for success in this position. The ideal candidate will possess strong financial modeling, accounting, valuation, and quantitative skills, as they will be responsible for building and maintaining integrated income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow models, as well as organizing and maintaining industry data. Additionally, strong writing and analytical skills are necessary, as associates will be tasked with writing and producing company initiations, equity research reports, and marketing presentations. A passion for the stock market, technology industry, and equity research is highly desirable. Candidates should also have strong sales and communication skills, as they will interact with internal sales and trading teams as well as external clients. Responsiveness and professionalism are key attributes for this role. The ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential, as is proficiency in PC skills, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg, and FactSet. While candidates with an MBA, CFA, or BBA are preferred, strong candidates without these credentials will also be considered.
