About the position

The Research Associate in Subsurface Geology at the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (NMBGMR) is responsible for curating the Subsurface Library, which includes cataloging and maintaining physical and digital geological records. This role supports the subsurface research team with data management and geological modeling software, contributing to the Bureau's mission of understanding and managing New Mexico's natural resources and geological hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Curate physical samples in the Subsurface Library.
  • Provide digital data management support to the subsurface research team.
  • Input and maintain databases related to subsurface geology.
  • Respond to data requests from the Subsurface Library.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geographic Information Systems, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in commonly employed software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Geology, Earth Science, Geographic Information Systems, or related fields.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with databases such as Access and SQL.
