About the position

The Research Associate at the Housing Assistance Council (HAC) plays a crucial role in conducting research, analyzing data, and disseminating information to inform local strategies and national policies aimed at improving housing conditions for rural populations. This position involves preparing research reports, engaging with stakeholders, and contributing to policy recommendations, all with a focus on social justice and rural issues.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and prepares research reports and other information products and publications.
  • Prepares written materials analyzing social, economic, and housing conditions, including newsletters and online content.
  • Represents HAC at meetings, coalitions, and federal agencies on policy-related matters.
  • Prepares and presents research and data at symposiums, conferences, and workshops.
  • Presents information about research and policy to various audiences, including media inquiries.
  • Helps develop rural housing research and policy recommendations and drafts comments on regulations.
  • Conceptualizes research, training, and policy efforts and comments on peers' work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in computer-assisted social science research, including knowledge of statistical methods and databases.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues.
  • Interest in rural issues.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate degree and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Experience and proficiency with quantitative data methods and data analysis.
  • Experience with housing issues and resources related to rural and low-income populations.
  • Professional work experience in housing and/or community development, research, or policy.
