About the position

AgReliant Genetics is seeking a Research Associate to oversee and manage operational and testing activities at inbred and hybrid research sites. This role is crucial in ensuring the successful execution of field experiments and the overall research process. The Research Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks including seed packaging, planting, pollinating, note-taking, harvesting, and shelling. Additionally, the position requires the organization and maintenance of seed stocks, as well as the coordination of field activities such as site selection, scouting, spraying, and timely harvests. The Research Associate will also play a key role in recruiting, supervising, and training seasonal employees, ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to during operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agriculture or field-focused research, with a preference for those holding an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy or a related field. The position demands excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to learn and utilize various computer software programs for data collection and retrieval. Familiarity with MS Office applications is preferred. The role also requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs and travel approximately 40 nights per year, including weekends, while working extended hours outdoors during the growing season.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in seed packaging, planting, pollinating, note taking, harvest, and shelling.
  • Inventory and maintain seed stocks.
  • Organize and conduct field experiments, including site selection, planting, scouting, coordination of field activities, spraying, and timely harvest.
  • Recruit, supervise, and train seasonal employees.
  • Operate field research equipment such as planters and combines.
  • Ensure safety rules are followed at all times.
  • Promote a positive image of the company and the research department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Agronomy or related field.
  • Previous experience working in agriculture or field-focused research is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and record keeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn multiple computer software programs for data collection and retrieval.
  • Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred).
  • Must be able to obtain a pesticide/herbicide applicator license.
