About the position

The Research Associate position at Wayne State University involves providing scientific and technical assistance in laboratory-based, clinical, or population science research. The role requires independent design and execution of research protocols, data collection, analysis, and preparation of research findings for publication. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and may engage in advanced research training, particularly in areas such as transgenic mouse models and stem cell biology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical assistance for laboratory-based, clinical, or population science research under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Assist in writing research protocols and manuscript preparation.
  • Design and perform research protocols independently or as directed.
  • Recruit participants for studies by developing surveys and interviewing candidates.
  • Implement research objectives while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines.
  • Communicate with the principal investigator and Postdoctoral scholars/fellows regarding research status.
  • Collect and log laboratory results, clinical outcomes, and survey data.
  • Evaluate and perform data analysis using graphs, charts, or tables to highlight key research points.
  • Prepare and present research results at professional, scientific, and academic conferences.
  • Summarize and organize data results for submission to academic and scholarly journals.
  • Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication, ensuring accuracy through proofreading and editing.
  • Maintain laboratory work areas and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
  • Order and organize required research supplies and maintain cleanliness of the work station.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field of study, preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience in basic research techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and analyze, summarize, and interpret research findings.
  • Knowledge of scientific integrity principles and excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD degree or equivalent degree.
  • Background in molecular biology, neuroscience, inner ear biology/development, stem cell biology, or neurobiology.
  • Experience in neuronal differentiation of stem cells for auditory neuron replacement and hair cell differentiation via genetic and epigenetic modulations.
