About the position

The Research Associate at Augusta University plays a crucial role in supporting research initiatives within a laboratory or clinical research unit. This position involves advanced administrative and technical work, including data collection, documentation, and the development of new research techniques. The Research Associate will also participate in the examination and treatment of study patients, advise research personnel, and supervise students and assistants engaged in research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project planning and development of research protocols to ensure adherence to scientific research principles and compliance with FDA guidelines.
  • Participate in physical examinations, testing, and treatment of study patients for research purposes; read and record vital signs; obtain tissue and fluid samples for further testing.
  • Advise principal investigators, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and other research personnel on research techniques and procedures.
  • Perform various administrative duties such as ordering equipment and supplies, maintaining equipment schedules, and record keeping.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants, and other employees engaged in research activities.
  • Teach and participate in complex bacteriological, chemical, and radio-chemical qualitative and quantitative analysis, as well as histological and cell culture procedures.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and operate complex scientific equipment; instruct others in the operation of this equipment.
  • Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings.
  • Analyze results of research experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques; may develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
  • Compose articles for publication in scientific journals and review articles prepared by others.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field with experience in research, basic science, or clinical laboratory, particularly clinical trial research; OR a Bachelor's degree in a related field with a minimum of three years of research and/or clinical experience and previous supervisory experience.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and other computer software/databases.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, keep accurate records, and make independent decisions.
