About the position

The Research Associate / Clinical Trial Coordinator Level I position at Duke University School of Medicine involves supporting clinical studies focused on invasive fungal infections in patients with advanced HIV disease in Southeast Asia. The role is designed for a motivated junior researcher with a background in epidemiology or public health, who will assist in various aspects of clinical trial coordination, including protocol development, site monitoring, and data collection. This position offers mentorship and opportunities for professional growth in clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with study start-up tasks, including clinical protocol development and preparation of protocols for ethical approval.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and study training materials.
  • Coordinate and set agendas for weekly team meetings and monthly trial leadership meetings.
  • Participate in site selection and training of site personnel regarding the trial.
  • Perform site monitoring duties and follow up to ensure identified deficiencies are corrected.
  • Travel as required inside and outside of the USA to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Conduct site initiation visits and monitoring visits to ensure compliance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Collect clinical data and administer clinical trials according to established guidelines.
  • Provide feedback to assigned sites regarding detected deficiencies and corrective actions needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, or biostatistics is required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of clinical trial design and operation is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary for coordinating clinical studies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest in infectious diseases clinical trials and global health is preferred but not required.
