About the position

The Research Biomedical Engineer at Uniformed Services University (USU) plays a crucial role in advancing military medicine by providing support and technical expertise to research efforts, particularly in functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI). This position involves developing research protocols, technical procedures, and collecting and analyzing data, while also ensuring compliance with necessary regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides research services to develop and execute research protocols and test plans, some of which may involve human subjects.
  • Coordinates research protocols and/or test plans involving human subjects or animals at external agencies.
  • Leads and/or assists research team in executing the research protocol or test plan, including development of the research or test methodology, data collection, data analysis, and reporting the findings.
  • Manages all aspects of in-house research protocols or test plans involving human subjects, including developing technical procedures, collecting and analyzing technical data, publishing technical reports or open-literature publications, and presenting at scientific conferences or meetings.
  • Assists in grant writing related to the research.
  • Works with Principal and Associate Investigators as well as outside collaborators to coordinate and execute research protocols, grant development, including budget and budget justification, and acquisition of supporting documentation; monitors periodic progress and execution of reporting.
  • May be required to fly on military aircraft or ride in military vehicles in the official conduct of duties of the position.
  • May be required to travel outside of the United States to attend working groups meetings, workshops, conferences, or other meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering or related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 3-6 years' experience and/or education in developing and executing scientific research protocols involving human subjects preferred.
  • Two years' nonprofit, governmental, or research experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis using engineering software, computer programming, writing technical publications, and oral communications required.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying statistical techniques to research data required.
  • Basic understanding of human physiology and/or anatomy required.

Benefits

  • Salary Range $73k- $95k/Annually, determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate's related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
