The lab of Dr. Greg Sawyer is seeking a research biomedical engineer who will be responsible for designing and developing biomedical engineering devices, tools, and instrumentation. This role involves conducting experiments and collaborating with a diverse team to develop novel tools, techniques, and approaches. The engineer will develop designs, evaluate fabrication options, and perform statistical modeling for select research projects. Additionally, the position requires interpreting data for patent disclosures, preparing reports, and presenting analyses to leadership for review. The engineer will also maintain computer software and servers, utilizing principles of biochemistry to design and develop a diverse range of biological products or processes. The Biomedical Engineer will report to the faculty of the specified program and will play a crucial role in advancing our research initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs complex research and related support activities including development and implementation of research projects, preparation of reports and manuscripts, conducting data analysis, and presentation of research at scientific meetings.
  • Responsible for the collection, organization, analysis, and documentation of data as directed by the overseeing Investigator with limited supervision required for data analysis and documentation of results.
  • Participates in the planning, implementation, and conduct of research projects in collaboration with the overseeing Investigator, including preparation of grants, progress reports, scientific manuscripts, conducting data analysis, and daily management activities.
  • Design, develop, and engineer new devices, software, or systems, document inventions, and collect necessary data for patent disclosures, supporting patent attorneys in drafting patents under the supervision of the PI.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment in a clean and working order, coordinating instrument standardization documented by written report.
  • Assists in planning and developing engineering research projects within the laboratory under the Investigator's direction.
  • Draft manuscripts and presentations under supervision of the PI, contributing to the preparation of manuscripts, grants, and administrative and research compliance documents as directed by the supervisor.
  • Technically responsible for the collection, organization, and permanent documentation of data in physical and electronic formats as directed by immediate supervisor.
  • Responsible for data analysis using standardized procedures and protocols under minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Bioengineering, Engineering, Chemistry, or Physics required.
  • PhD is preferred.
  • Hands-on research experience is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
