About the position

The Research Capacity Core Biostatistics Research Associate at CUNY School of Medicine plays a vital role in supporting research initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities in minority populations. This position involves providing biostatistical expertise to project investigators, assisting in experimental design, data analysis, and the preparation of research proposals and manuscripts. The associate will work closely with faculty and the Research Capacity Core director to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of research methodologies and data management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary biostatistical resource for investigators, providing hands-on support for experimental design and analytics.
  • Identify appropriate statistical methods to contribute to decision-making on study design and data collection.
  • Develop analysis plans to ensure statistical methods align with study design and objectives.
  • Assist in preparing statistical analysis sections for manuscripts and funding applications.
  • Provide technical assistance for maintaining databases across multiple projects.
  • Help with data preparation for warehousing and analysis.
  • Design measures, sampling techniques, and instruments to measure results.
  • Participate in study design and methods, including creating questionnaires and interview forms.
  • Keep accurate, well-organized records of research activities.
  • Design, develop, and maintain statistical analysis programs for research data.
  • Create SAS/SPSS applications in support of research projects.
  • Perform statistical data analysis and evaluate research designs.
  • Provide tabular and written summaries of analyses for project deliverables.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with other biostatistics and core personnel.
  • Provide technical assistance in interpreting and presenting study results.
  • Write selected sections of project final reports and participate in editing reports.
  • Participate in oral presentations of project findings and abstracts.
  • Instruct and supervise other personnel in data management.
  • Maintain confidentiality as required by the project.
  • May be assigned independent responsibility for major portions of a research project.

Requirements

  • An earned Ph.D. in an appropriate field of study with at least two years of research experience, or a Master's Degree with at least four years of relevant research experience.
  • A record of research, publications, and scholarship in a related field.
  • Ability to comprehend and act on assignments of varying complexity.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using web-based technology and statistical software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Familiarity with health disparities research and minority health issues.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex statistical findings.
