About the position

The Research Charge Review Analyst II position at UCSF involves applying skills as a revenue cycle analyst to manage and evaluate research-related charges. The role focuses on ensuring appropriate billing practices, utilizing various systems for charge review, and improving efficiency in the revenue cycle process.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and evaluate research-related charges for appropriate routing and consistent billing according to guidelines.
  • Utilize knowledge of various systems including EPIC and government websites for detailed follow-up.
  • Interpret coverage analysis information and maintain an audit trail for further review.
  • Research missing charges by reviewing Coverage Analysis, APEX, and MediAssets.
  • Review billing grids to identify and correct missing charges.
  • Adhere to payer rules and regulations including Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance.
  • Initiate charge corrections as necessary.
  • Notify management of potential procedural changes to improve efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and one to two years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently.
  • Proficiency in database, spreadsheet, and presentation software, particularly MS Excel and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate workflows and systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of billing, collections, charge capture, and third-party reimbursements.
  • Strong communication skills to interpret and convey complex clinical finance information clearly.
  • Familiarity with CPT / ICD-9 or ICD-10 coding systems.
  • Prior experience with the EPIC (Apex) system, especially in insurance follow-up modules.
  • Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) certification.
