About the position

The Research Compliance Manager at Auburn University is responsible for overseeing compliance programs related to animal care and use, human research protection, and biological safety. This role serves as a subject matter expert, ensuring adherence to federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies. The position involves managing compliance documentation, conducting training, and advising researchers on compliance matters, contributing to the university's commitment to impactful research and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages unified compliance programs, monitoring the regulatory environment and coordinating institutional self-assessments.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures for regulatory compliance.
  • Creates and maintains research compliance documents, forms, and web pages.
  • Reviews and approves protocols, authorizations, or disclosures for compliance with regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Evaluates compliance approvals for consistency with the scope of work for sponsored projects.
  • Reviews and determines completion of appropriate training for personnel, develops training materials/resources, and conducts educational sessions.
  • Participates in campus-wide post-approval monitoring programs.
  • Advises AU investigators on compliance regulations, policies, and procedures, assisting with protocol development and submission.
  • Drafts and submits required assurances and reports, including non-compliance reports to appropriate University administration and federal agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, ethics, nursing, medicine, veterinary medicine, animal sciences, biological sciences, social behavior, human sciences, or a related field.
  • 5 years of professional experience related to contracts, grants, law, nursing, medicine, veterinary medicine, animal sciences, or human/animal research.
  • At least 1 year of experience supervising, mentoring, or leading others.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies related to animal care and use or biological hazards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with HURON Electronic Research Administration System.
  • Animal Care and Use Program Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).
