About the position

The Research Compliance Manager at Auburn University is responsible for overseeing and managing compliance programs related to animal care and use, human research protection, and biological safety. This role serves as the subject matter expert, ensuring adherence to federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies. The position involves developing policies, reviewing protocols, conducting training, and advising investigators on compliance matters, contributing to the university's commitment to impactful research and community engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages a unified program(s) for research compliance.
  • Monitors the regulatory environment and coordinates institutional self-assessments.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of institutional policies and procedures for compliance.
  • Creates and maintains research compliance documents, forms, and web pages.
  • Reviews and approves protocols for compliance with regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Evaluates compliance approvals for consistency with sponsored projects.
  • Determines completion of appropriate training for personnel and develops training materials.
  • Conducts educational sessions related to research compliance.
  • Participates in campus-wide post-approval monitoring programs.
  • Advises AU investigators on compliance regulations and procedures.
  • Drafts and submits required assurances and reports, including non-compliance reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, ethics, nursing, medicine, vet medicine, animal sciences, biological sciences, social behavior, human sciences, or related field.
  • 5 years of professional experience related to contracts, grants, law, nursing, medicine, vet medicine, animal sciences, human or animal research.
  • At least 1 year of experience supervising, mentoring, or leading others.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, state laws, and institutional policies related to animal care and use or biological hazards.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and superior active listening skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education.
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with HURON Electronic Research Administration System.
  • Animal Care and Use Program Certified Professional in IACUC Administration (CPIA).
