About the position

The Research Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that research activities at the University comply with federal and state laws as well as institutional regulations. This role involves enforcing compliance standards and promoting ethical practices among faculty and staff in their research programs. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders to uphold high standards of integrity and responsibility in research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance of research activities with federal and state laws and institutional regulations.
  • Enforce regulations and promote adherence to ethical standards among research faculty and staff.
  • Interface effectively with faculty, staff, students, and government officials regarding compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement office priorities and goals without supervision.
  • Handle and resolve recurring challenges related to research compliance.
  • Provide leadership and supervision in office administration and budget development.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in quality control, export control regulations, classification and licensing procedures, and/or risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and mediation skills.
  • Proven abilities in office administration, budget development, staff supervision, and leadership.
  • Knowledge of current OHRP regulations and AAHRPP Accreditation requirements.
  • Knowledge of Export Control regulations (EAR, ITAR, OFAC) and classification and licensing procedures.
  • Familiarity with ORI reporting requirements for Research Misconduct and NIH Conflict of Interest guidelines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent education.
  • Knowledge of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents rules and regulations regarding compliance areas.
  • Ability to collaborate with other University of Nebraska campus Institutional Officials to create common policies and procedures.
