About the position

The Research Compliance Officer at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is responsible for ensuring that research activities comply with federal and state laws as well as institutional regulations. This role involves enforcing regulations and promoting high standards of ethics, integrity, and responsibility among research faculty and staff. The officer will work closely with various stakeholders to maintain compliance in areas such as Human Research, Export Control, Conflict of Interest, and Responsible Conduct of Research.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and institutional regulations regarding research activities.
  • Promote high standards of ethics, integrity, and responsibility in research programs.
  • Interface effectively with faculty, staff, students, and government officials on compliance matters.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to research compliance.
  • Conduct training and provide guidance on compliance issues to research faculty and staff.
  • Monitor and assess compliance with research regulations and guidelines.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Science, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in quality control, export control regulations, classification and licensing procedures, and/or risk assessment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Proven abilities in office administration, budget development, and staff supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of current OHRP regulations and AAHRPP Accreditation requirements.
  • Familiarity with NIH and NSF Responsible Conduct of Research requirements.
  • Experience interfacing with Institutional Officials to create common policies.
