About the position

The Research Coordinator I position at the University of Florida involves overseeing the coordination of trial gardens and greenhouse experiments, ensuring proper maintenance and compliance with safety protocols. The role includes managing student volunteers, maintaining chemical inventories, and updating the center's online presence. The coordinator will also act as a liaison for the Principal Investigator (PI) and facilitate communication among stakeholders while ensuring adherence to institutional policies.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the preparation, setup, maintenance, and cleanup of experiments in the greenhouse and field.
  • Oversee nutrient analysis of plant, soil, and water samples, ensuring accuracy in data collection.
  • Supervise student volunteers and ensure adherence to experimental guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Implement routine preventative maintenance procedures for greenhouse and laboratory spaces.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and purchase necessary materials for experiments.
  • Repair and maintain irrigation systems in the field and greenhouse.
  • Maintain and update the FLREC website and manage social media accounts.
  • Act as a liaison for the PI, coordinating trials and meetings with stakeholders.
  • Interpret and implement policies related to trial gardens and greenhouses.
  • Manage chemical inventory and coordinate hazardous waste management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to independently establish and conduct projects with minimal guidance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in agronomy, biology, botany, entomology, forestry, horticulture, zoology, or a related discipline.
