About the position

The Research Data Analyst 2 position at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley, involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data. The role is focused on designing and conducting research, managing research studies, and collaborating with faculty and students to support the mission of the Fisher Center for Real Estate + Urban Economics. Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret a wide variety of research data.
  • Design and conduct research including selecting data samples and developing research instruments.
  • Analyze collected information according to established statistical methods and develop recommendations based on research findings.
  • Prepare reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.
  • Conduct statistical studies in support of research proposals and protocols.
  • Manage personnel, timelines, logistics, and data collection for research studies, overseeing undergraduate research assistants.
  • Maintain and develop research gathering, retrieval, and reporting systems.
  • Collaborate across a diverse array of faculty, graduate students, research assistants, and staff to manage the portfolio of research projects and communication flow.
  • Plan studies, including the design of survey instruments and determining sampling and reporting procedures.
  • Prepare and analyze research data.
  • Understand components of literature review and how it relates to study design.
  • Contribute to developing projects and revisions of ongoing projects.
  • Attend and participate in research seminars.
  • Collaborate on the design, documentation, testing, and implementation of research studies.
  • Assist in developing systems for organizing data to analyze, identify, and report trends.
  • Schedule and coordinate research meetings.
  • Coordinate hiring, interviewing, and reviewing applicants for undergraduate and predoctoral research assistants.
  • May be involved in researching, evaluating, and selecting new data reporting products.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of research function.
  • Working skills in statistical analysis, systems programming, database design, and data security measures.
  • Working skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in some or all of the following languages for writing code for computation and estimation: Python, Julia, STATA, MatLab, and/or Perl.
  • Proficiency in version control software such as git.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a business, organization, or public university setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience running code on Linux-based remote server environments.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Experience writing on technical subjects for a professional or non-professional audience.
