About the position

The Research Data Analyst 3 position at the University of California, Merced involves providing biostatistical and data management support within the Biostatistics and Data Support Core of the Health Sciences Research Institute. The role requires considerable independence in collaborating with faculty, graduate students, and biomedical researchers to devise analysis plans for various research studies, manage complex healthcare datasets, and assist in grant applications and publication efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
  • Train and supervise graduate and undergraduate assistants.
  • Summarize findings orally and in written form.
  • Consult with investigators on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Assist in study design and grant proposal development.
  • Present results for investigators using graphs and tables.
  • Develop and implement protocols for quality control.
  • Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Create analytic files with detailed documentation.
  • Assist with management and creation of contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a related field, or equivalent experience/training (Required).
  • Three years of directly related, progressively responsible experience in a related field, or seven years of directly related experience (Required).
  • Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.
  • Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.
  • Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree from an accredited university in a related field (Preferred).
  • Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator) (Preferred).
  • Expertise in survey design and weighting, and sample size calculation (Preferred).
  • Database management and programming (Preferred).
