About the position

The Research Data Analyst I position at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is a full-time, limited-term role that may extend up to 24 months or become permanent. The incumbent will work under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer, applying Geographic Information System (GIS) methodologies and automation techniques to enhance GIS data manipulation, analysis, and presentation. This role involves collaboration with a diverse team of GIS Researchers and Transportation Engineers to support the development and implementation of the New Transportation System Network.

Responsibilities

• Apply GIS methodologies and automation techniques to streamline GIS data manipulation and analysis.
• Assist in the development and implementation of the New Transportation System Network.
• Collaborate with GIS Researchers and Transportation Engineers on various projects.
• Prepare reports and presentations based on data analysis and GIS findings.
• Maintain professional relationships with internal and external partners, including local, state, and federal agencies.

Requirements

• Demonstrated extensive experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Competency in basic computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Access, ArcGIS, and Google Earth.
• Ability to compile, organize, query, and analyze data effectively.
• Strong communication skills to prepare correspondence and summarize data in reports.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of statistical procedures and research methods.
