The purpose of this job is to perform tasks associated with the Local Area Unemployment Statistics Program to meet Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) grant requirements. The position involves performing tasks associated with the monthly production of estimates by following BLS guidelines for the Local Area Unemployment Statistics Program, including all tasks associated with the PROMIS Program. This includes completing benchmark processing for Local Area Unemployment Statistics and reviewing all input and output data for accuracy. Additionally, the role requires assisting in the preparation of labor market data and information for various publications, as well as preparing written analyses of changes in statewide and county estimates each month. The Research/Data Analyst I will also be responsible for researching business openings, closings, expansions, contracts, layoffs, and strikes by utilizing public data sources such as newspapers and the internet. This position is crucial for ensuring that the data collected is accurate and relevant, which in turn supports the mission of the Mississippi Department of Employment Security to help Mississippians secure employment. All potential applicants are required to pass an extensive background check and must possess a valid driver's license, as some intrastate and interstate travel is required.
