About the position

The Quality Improvement Research Associate position at the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) is a vital role within the Policy Research & Data Analytics (PRDA) Division. This division is dedicated to providing research, guidance, and data analytics to inform retirement-related issues and business decisions. The Research Data Analyst II (RDA II) will be responsible for designing and conducting iterative research projects that leverage large, real-world datasets to inform decision-making and implement continuous process improvements. The RDA II will work under the general supervision of the Research Data Supervisor II, Lean Operations & Research Analytics, and will be expected to manage a workload consisting of multiple projects and assignments, completing work under critical timelines to meet project requirements. The ideal candidate will possess intermediate knowledge and experience in various research, analytical, and statistical methods and techniques used in data analysis. The RDA II will be tasked with writing clear and concise studies and reports, demonstrating a high degree of independence, initiative, flexibility, and tact in performing their duties. This position is office-centered, requiring the employee to work primarily onsite at the Sacramento headquarters at least three weekdays per week. The role is permanent and full-time, offering a competitive salary range of $6,453.00 to $8,083.00 per month. The position is designed for individuals who thrive in a collaborative team environment and are passionate about research and data analytics.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge of research, analytical, and statistical methods and techniques used in data analysis.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously with varying deadlines.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports and studies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and creatively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of basic process improvement principles.
  • Expert knowledge of computer and statistical programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel, SAS, Power BI) for data analysis and report writing.
  • Project management skills sufficient to lead enterprise-wide projects.
