About the position

The Research Data Analyst at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga supports the data and analytic functions of the Office of Planning, Evaluation, and Institutional Research. This role involves collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and presenting institutional and external data to inform academic program planning, student success, operational efficacy, and strategic planning. The analyst manages databases, directs reporting activities, and develops communication venues for planning and management, ensuring compliance with UTC's external reporting obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the design, maintenance, and manipulation of queries within relational databases to support data-informed decision making.
  • Select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results consistent with policies and professional standards.
  • Validate student, financial, and HR data for reporting responsibilities.
  • Conduct market analyses and predictive data analyses, illustrating and interpreting trends for enhanced understanding.
  • Serve as a consultant to faculty, staff, and administrators to promote data-driven management excellence.
  • Oversee the completion of all federal IPEDS reporting and external directory reporting.
  • Assist with data transmittal processes to UT System and THEC, including data verification and correction of errors.
  • Develop and maintain dynamic dashboards of student, faculty, and financial data for the University.
  • Maintain documentation for process management within Institutional Research and collaborate with Academic Affairs Project Manager.
  • Participate in committees and working groups as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of work experience in post-secondary administration or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in data collection, cleaning, and management.
  • Excellent math skills including knowledge of descriptive statistics.
  • Expert knowledge of statistical software and data visualization tools (SPSS, Tableau, Power BI, SAS), and survey software (Qualtrics).
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and effectively through excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytic skills with high attention to detail, data quality, and accuracy.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Access, Excel, Visio, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Statistics, or Higher Education.
  • Five years of work experience in post-secondary administration.
  • Advanced expertise in statistical data analysis and predictive modeling.
  • High level of experience using statistical software packages (SPSS) and database management (Banner, Argos, SAP).
  • Experience managing data quality processes and project management.
