About the position

The Research Data Analyst & Security Engineer position at Johns Hopkins University is situated within the Huynh Lab in the Department of Environmental Health and Engineering at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. This role is pivotal in advancing environmental justice and health equity through the development of AI and data science methodologies. The successful candidate will engage in both data science research and software engineering, focusing on cybersecurity aspects that are critical to the lab's ongoing projects. In this role, the analyst will be responsible for creating and maintaining the software engineering infrastructure necessary for active research projects. This includes updating OAuth authentication endpoints to meet the software needs of the lab and implementing SQL changes to enhance the functionality of the platform. The position also requires the development of comprehensive data collection and analysis methodologies, which involves defining data requirements, identifying data sources, and establishing proper data collection procedures. This may include the creation of computer programs, selection of appropriate data fields, and management of databases. The analyst will perform data analysis and interpretation, leveraging their knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis to derive meaningful insights from the data. Additionally, they will be tasked with presenting research data effectively and may contribute to writing sections of manuscripts and publications, thereby playing a crucial role in disseminating the lab's findings to the broader scientific community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop software engineering infrastructure for active research projects, particularly in cybersecurity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 4+ years of C# work experience.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and common cyberattacks (DDoS, Cross-Site Scripting).
  • Understanding of TLS/SSL certificates and certificate management protocols.
  • Knowledge of Python and database scripting.
