About the position

The Research/Database Analyst position at Marian University plays a crucial role in enhancing the learning experience of students by providing high-quality, reliable data and information that supports institutional planning, assessment, and decision-making processes. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local mandates while promoting the university's mission and core values. The analyst will be responsible for gathering, assembling, analyzing, and organizing relevant institutional data and metrics in response to various requests for information. This includes coordinating with IT and other functional areas to ensure the proper integration of software products within the university's systems. In addition to data analysis, the Research/Database Analyst will run reports, labels, and surveys for various constituents, including IPEDS and NSC. The position requires the maintenance of proficiency in PowerCampus and Microsoft Excel, as well as the ability to initiate, deliver, and maintain surveys throughout the year, preparing analyses of the results. The analyst will also assist in preparing for accreditation reviews and compiling and analyzing other statistics, while educating information producers, users, and consumers about data usage and best practices. The role involves cross-training with support specialists in other offices to provide comprehensive support across the institution and participating in campus-wide committees as appropriate. A positive work environment is essential, and the analyst is expected to cooperate professionally with the university community while performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to requests for information by gathering, assembling, analyzing and organizing relevant institutional data and metrics.
  • Coordinates with IT and other functional areas of the University to ensure proper system integration of software products.
  • Responsible for analyzing data from administrative units in support of institutional planning, assessment and decision making.
  • Communicates general rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the University to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Runs reports, labels and surveys for various constituents, including IPEDS and NSC.
  • Initiates, delivers and maintains surveys throughout the year and prepares analysis of results.
  • Maintains proficiency in PowerCampus and Microsoft Excel.
  • Helps prepare for accreditation reviews, and compiles and analyzes other statistics.
  • Educates information producers, users and consumers.
  • Cross trains with support specialists in other offices to provide support across the institution.
  • Serves on campus-wide committees as appropriate.
  • Maintains a positive work environment by cooperating in a professional manner with the University community.

Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Proficiency in SQL (Structured Query Language) and SQL reporting services data extraction techniques, query writing and data management.
  • Ability to work independently or as a team with internal and external constituents to plan, test, implement and troubleshoot software issues, systems connectivity issues and missing or inaccurate data.
  • Proficient in computer skills including statistical software and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to function effectively in a high-paced office setting: strong writing and oral communication, problem solving, organizational, time management, planning and multi-tasking skills.
