About the position

HealthPartners is currently seeking a Research Development Associate who will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient development and submission of research grant proposals. This position involves the scientific review of research applications, requiring a thorough understanding of Federal regulations and organizational policies related to the administration of research activities. The Research Development Associate will collaborate with internal Institute research investigators as well as external investigators and organizations to formulate comprehensive scientific and financial plans for a diverse range of health and healthcare topics. The associate will oversee the development and submission of research proposals to various funding sources, including federal government agencies, foundations, and industry partners. This includes ensuring that all applications are submitted in a timely manner and are complete, compliant with applicable regulatory, ethical, and legal standards. The role also involves reviewing application requirements to ensure that proposals meet the specific criteria set by funding agencies. In addition to proposal oversight, the Research Development Associate will provide writing and editing support for grant submissions, prepare and maintain necessary documentation, and analyze operational and institutional requirements for conducting proposed research. This includes developing budgets that align with grant program guidelines. The associate will assist investigators in preparing research applications and budgets for internal review, maintain electronic systems that support the proposal development process, and ensure that all information is current and accurate in tracking systems. Furthermore, the position requires effective communication and coordination with various departments to facilitate the smooth transition of projects from development to operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the development and submission of research proposals to various funding sources including federal government, foundations, and industry.
  • Ensures that all applications and subsequent requests are timely and complete.
  • Ensures that proposals comply with applicable regulatory, ethical, and legal standards.
  • Reviews application requirements and ensures proposals meet the requirements of the funding agency.
  • Provides writing and editing services to support grant submission.
  • Prepares and maintains supporting documentation and descriptions of the organization, personnel, and resources.
  • Analyzes operational and institutional requirements for conducting proposed research and develops budgets accordingly.
  • Assists investigators in the preparation of research applications and corresponding budgets for internal review.
  • Maintains and uses electronic systems and software that support the proposal development process.
  • Updates electronic tracking systems and ensures information is current and accurate.
  • Oversees the efficient transfer of projects from development to operations by ensuring timely information sharing with relevant departments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a related area (e.g., Public Health, Health Administration, Social Sciences, Business Administration, Public Administration).
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience supporting the development of Federal grant proposals and planning health-related research projects.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Federal regulations related to research grants.
  • Previous exposure to grant financial and budget management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, coordination, and organization skills.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with PCs, spreadsheets, and word processing applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with Institute leadership, staff, investigators, and representatives of funding agencies.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Grant submission or research review experience preferred; familiarity with scientific, financial, and regulatory requirements of health care research.
  • Experience with presentations/visual display of information.
  • Ability to take broad guidelines of a task, initiate a course of action, and coordinate the activity through completion.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing positive work relationships with a variety of staff.
