About the position

The Research & Development Lab Technician at Atlas Roofing Corporation is responsible for performing laboratory specification testing, including the inspection and testing of finished production, experimental products, and raw materials to ensure compliance with company specifications. This role requires attention to detail, basic computer skills, and a willingness to work in manufacturing locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide inspection and testing of all finished products and raw materials to ensure they meet Atlas' specifications.
• Communicate any out of specification testing to the Manager.
• Perform line audits to assess finished quality and in-process quality including temperatures, speed, pressures, etc.
• Assist in the training of employees on specific test methods and equipment.
• Input data into Microsoft products and Minitab daily and verify data accuracy for QC monthly report.
• Assist in Competitive & Sister Audits when time allows.
• Communicate with supervision and production employees regarding quality issues during the production process.
• Maintain lab equipment and scales required for quality testing.
• Responsible for cleaning testing materials and keeping the lab tidy.
• Perform testing for all products.
• Assist in the design and implementation of new products.
• Participate in project teams to improve quality, process, or performance on roofing products.
• Travel to other production locations, industry meetings, and vendors as required.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear proper PPE.
• Perform other tasks as requested.

Requirements

• High School education or equivalent; some college or an associate's degree preferred.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in a laboratory setting.
• Basic computer skills and working knowledge of experimental design.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with R&D laboratory processes and manufacturing processes.
• Mathematical skills with an emphasis on statistical processes.
