About the position

The Research & Development Technician at Idaho National Laboratory will work within the Spectrum Innovation department, focusing on the fabrication, assembly, calibration, adjustment, and testing of unique electronic and mechanical devices. This role involves operating test equipment, analyzing performance data, and ensuring compliance with laboratory standards. The position operates on a 9×80 schedule, providing every other Friday off, and requires a commitment to safety and diversity in the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring work is performed safely, following laboratory policies, standards and procedures.
  • Perform assessments to ensure compliance with laboratory requirements.
  • Provide research support by procurement, assembly, set-up, troubleshooting, and operation of research equipment and experiments.
  • Experience with bench, pilot, and full-scale research equipment designed to process and handle materials through chemical, mechanical, and thermal conditions.
  • Directly guide the implementation of new concepts and techniques concerning program assets and new capabilities.
  • Maintain records and logs of work activities and procedures. Compile and complete documentation of development and test processes.
  • Participate in equipment and test design as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of relevant experience for Level 2.
  • High School Diploma and 4 years of relevant experience for Level 3.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electronic, electro/mechanical, fiber-optics, mechanical, and optical devices.
  • Familiarity with lock out/tag out (LO/TO), respirator, confined spaces, hoisting and rigging, forklift operation, and material handling.
