About the position

The Research Engineer, Aerodynamics position at RTX Corporation involves working within the Aerodynamics & Acoustics team at the RTX Technology Research Center. The role focuses on developing innovative technologies and solving complex problems related to aerospace and defense applications. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, utilize advanced modeling techniques, and communicate research findings effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams on propulsion systems, turbomachinery, compression systems, and high-speed flows.
  • Deliver advanced technology through creative analysis and problem solving.
  • Select and deploy appropriate modeling fidelity for various problems, including high-fidelity computational models.
  • Effectively communicate research results through verbal and written means.
  • Participate in the creation of research proposals for RTX business units and government agencies.

Requirements

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, or aeroelastics as applied to propulsion systems and related technologies.
  • Experience in computational fluid dynamics in relevant areas.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or closely related field with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience, or a Master's Degree with 3 years experience, or a PhD in a related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in mechanical or aerospace engineering or closely related field.
  • Ph.D. candidates with no formal experience will be considered; M.S. candidates must have 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • Adaptability and ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to foster positive relationships with partners.
  • Experience managing uncertain requirements and developing problem-solving approaches.
