About the position

The Research Engineer position at ClarkDietrich is an entry-level role situated within the R&D Lab in West Chester, OH. This position is designed for individuals who possess a strong work ethic and a desire to grow within an organization that prioritizes employee development through cross-training and skill enhancement. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a Senior Research Engineer or Research Manager, engaging in a variety of tasks that contribute to the company's innovative projects in civil and structural engineering. The role requires a Master's degree in engineering, preferably with a focus on structural engineering, and some relevant work experience, ideally at the Test Engineer level or through graduate studies. In this role, the Research Engineer will utilize accepted engineering methods and techniques to address well-defined problems and contribute to broader projects. The position involves applying standard structural test engineering practices, adjusting and correlating data, and recognizing discrepancies in results. The engineer will conduct experiments and tests in both laboratory and field settings, which includes taking measurements, recording observations, and processing data. Collaboration with team members is essential to achieve organizational goals, and the engineer may also provide suggestions for improving efficiency within the group. The Research Engineer will independently conduct small-scale load tests and assist in larger structural load tests. Responsibilities also include compiling test results, developing plots or tables from collected data, creating CAD drawings of test assemblies, and documenting test procedures. The role may involve guiding the work of peers or technicians on specific projects, ensuring that all tasks are completed effectively and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Solve well-defined problems using accepted engineering methods and techniques under the guidance of an experienced engineer.
  • Apply standard structural test engineering practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusting and correlating data as necessary.
  • Conduct experiments/tests in the laboratory/field, including taking measurements and recording observations.
  • Collect, compile, and process data for analysis and reporting.
  • Contribute data/findings for reports, documents, or presentations.
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish organizational goals and improve efficiency.
  • Independently conduct small scale load tests and assist in larger scale structural load tests.
  • Compile and report results, including developing plots or tables from test data and creating CAD drawings of test assemblies.
  • Direct activities of technical staff on specific assigned projects.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structures or a related engineering field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one year's experience with civil structural testing or analytic investigation of cold-formed steel behavior, which may include relevant educational programs.
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of structural engineering.
