About the position

Meta is seeking a Research Engineer to join its Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) organization, focusing on making significant advances in AI. The ideal candidate will have experience in vision models and general AI, and will work on building contextually aware AI systems that will revolutionize how we interact with computers. The selected individual will collaborate with a diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and cross-functional partners, utilizing cutting-edge technology, resources, and research facilities to drive innovation in the field. As a Research Engineer specializing in Computer Vision, the candidate will be responsible for building models that estimate underlying 3D properties from 2D observations, working with articulated object models and various optical models. The role also involves contributing to automated systems and data annotation engines, as well as training and optimizing large transformer models. This position offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of AI research and development, contributing to projects that have the potential to reshape the future of technology. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in complex problem-solving, leveraging their research experience in computer vision and large-scale model training. They will also need to demonstrate proficiency in programming languages such as Python and frameworks like PyTorch, as well as a strong foundation in software engineering principles. This role is pivotal in advancing Meta's mission to build technologies that connect people and foster community growth, moving beyond traditional digital interactions to immersive experiences in augmented and virtual reality.

Responsibilities

  • Build models that can estimate underlying 3D properties from 2D observations.
  • Work with articulated object models and various optical models.
  • Build and contribute to automated systems and data annotation engines.
  • Train and optimize large transformers models.

Requirements

  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Research experience in computer vision.
  • Experience with large scale model training and large scale image or video datasets.
  • Experience with Python and PyTorch.
  • Experience writing software and executing complex experiments.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Research experience with 3D human mesh modeling, pose estimation, or motion modeling.
  • Experience with physics simulation (e.g., Mujoco) or 3D rendering.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as publications at leading workshops, journals or conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, or similar.
  • Demonstrated research and software engineering experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
  • Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions, tradeoffs, and diverse points of view to determine a path forward.
  • Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment.
