About the position

The Research Engineer - Sensor Systems and Multivariate Data Analytics at GE Vernova Advanced Research focuses on the design and development of innovative sensor technologies aimed at supporting the energy transition. This role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to create state-of-the-art sensor systems, integrating transducers and data analytics to enhance performance in gas and physical sensor applications. The position emphasizes research, development, and validation of sensor subsystems, contributing to projects that drive sustainable energy solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design innovative approaches in transducers, signal interrogators, and data analytics for gas and physical sensors
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team of Scientists, Engineers, and Technicians to create new state-of-the-art sensor systems
  • Communicate status updates with key stakeholders within and outside GE Vernova Advanced Research
  • Collaborate with industrial, academic, and governmental partners on system-level sensing solutions
  • Work directly with customers to understand their needs and identify future opportunities
  • Build sensor system solutions specific to the needs of diverse customers
  • Contribute to all aspects of industrial sensor systems research, including innovations, requirements definition, project planning, specifications, system design, and experimental validation
  • Identify, conduct, and interpret critical experiments to validate sensor systems concepts and present research findings to senior management
  • Develop, write, and present research plans and proposals to internal and external stakeholders
  • Present research results at conferences and publish in leading journals
  • Build and maintain a technical network including universities and government agencies

Requirements

  • PhD degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or related field, or MS degree with a minimum of three years of related experience in sensor systems
  • Demonstrated experience designing and testing gas and/or physical sensor structures and devices
  • Ability to design key sensing components such as transducers and combine them with needed sensing materials and signal interrogators
  • Experience in data analytics - univariate and multivariate - for sensor applications
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated design of sensors based on different transduction principles such as electrical, optical, mechanical, thermal
  • Demonstrated design of wired and/or wireless sensors
  • Understanding of the synergism between sensor design and associated data analytics (machine learning) of sensor outputs
  • Familiarization with manufacturing principles of designed sensor systems
  • Ability to work in sensors laboratories and conduct critical experiments
  • Ability to develop experimental methods for testing sensor system components and whole systems
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent presentation, speaking, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
