About the position

The Research Engineer - Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) at GE Vernova is responsible for leading and conducting research and development projects focused on energy conversion and storage technologies. This role emphasizes the development of solid oxide fuel and electrolysis cells, contributing to sustainable energy solutions and the energy transition. The engineer will work independently and collaboratively to innovate and optimize processes, while also engaging with various stakeholders to drive technology advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead projects in energy conversion and storage, specifically solid oxide fuel cells and electrolysis cells.
  • Conduct and lead basic and applied research including SOFC control, automation, robotics, and thermal spray process development.
  • Work independently to guide the development of new technologies and capabilities for solid oxide cells.
  • Design and execute experiments, leading tasks to benefit GE Vernova businesses and customers.
  • Shape proposals with GE Vernova businesses, government agencies, universities, and national laboratories.
  • Formulate system requirements for energy conversion projects.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for stakeholders detailing the value, strategy, and results of work.
  • Coordinate analytical work to meet or exceed customer entitlements.
  • Develop and identify new technology, products, and service opportunities in energy conversion and storage.
  • Stay informed about competing and disruptive technologies to develop robust technology for the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering, control, automation and robotics, or related field.
  • Minimum of 18 years of experience in developing solid oxide cells and systems for fuel formulation and production.
  • Proven record of innovation in energy storage and conversion technologies, including solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells.
  • Practical knowledge of safety practices related to experimental design and lab practices.
  • Demonstrated project execution experience and teamwork ability across all functions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in automation, control, and robotics for SOFC applications.
  • Experience at a commercial solid oxide cell manufacturer or government research facility.
  • Strong data analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability in a global team environment.
