About the position

The Institute of International Education (IIE) is seeking a Research Evaluation and Learning Officer to join our Research, Evaluation and Learning team. This role is pivotal in our mission to transform the interconnected world into a network of more peaceful and equitable societies through education. The Research, Evaluation & Learning (REL) Unit comprises leading experts in academic mobility and evaluation, dedicated to conducting timely and relevant research, assessments, and impact studies. We provide comprehensive services to various stakeholders, including governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, foundations, and corporations, facilitating the collection of policy-relevant data on international education and assessing the impact of programs on beneficiaries and communities. As a Research Evaluation and Learning Officer, you will implement research and evaluation tasks within the REL department. Your responsibilities will include conducting research studies on international exchange and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of programs for IIE and external clients. You will oversee all aspects of research or evaluation projects, which encompass designing methodologies, implementing them, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating findings effectively. Additionally, you will serve as an internal resource for IIE team members regarding research and evaluation inquiries and practices. This position requires a proactive approach to drafting and implementing research and evaluation plans, developing data collection instruments, and conducting both qualitative and quantitative data collection. You will also conduct desk research and literature reviews to support larger projects, analyze data, and develop publications and presentations to promote IIE's thought leadership. Your role will involve representing IIE's research and evaluation activities at events and conferences, as well as assisting with special requests related to research and evaluation data.

Responsibilities

• Supports the drafting and implements research and evaluation plans that outline the project approach and methodology.
• Develops data collection instruments and conducts qualitative and quantitative data collection, including liaising with external stakeholders and bringing in external secondary datasets as necessary.
• Conducts desk research and literature reviews in support of larger research and evaluation projects.
• Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
• Develops REL publications (blogs, articles, etc.), graphics and presentations for a range of audiences to promote IIE's thought leadership and represents IIE's research and evaluation activities through presentations at events and conferences.
• Assists with special internal and external requests related to research and evaluation data.

Requirements

• Requires an advanced degree in order to apply in-depth knowledge of the theories and principles of a specialized work function, field or discipline.
• Requires at least two years of related work experience.
• Masters degree in social sciences field with focus on research methods.
• Familiarity of complex research and evaluation-related concepts in an effective manner.
• Experience with interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques and presenting findings in reports, utilizing excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Applied knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing large datasets (Excel, Stata, SPSS, etc.); knowledge of qualitative data analysis.
• Ability to successfully implement simultaneous projects and competing demands in a fast-paced work environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
