About the position

The Research Finance Analyst III position within the Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology at UCSF is designed for an experienced research administrator who will play a crucial role in managing research proposals, awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management. This role requires a strong financial analyst with the ability to navigate complex financial data and compliance regulations while supporting faculty and staff in developing sustainable business plans for research activities. The position also involves mentoring less experienced staff and contributing to a culture of leadership and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee research proposals, awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management.
  • Maintain contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies.
  • Analyze complex financial data and serve as a team expert on the institution's financial regulations.
  • Complete and approve transactions for signature by authorized institutional officials.
  • Work in partnership with faculty and team members to manage funds and develop sustainable business plans and cost/revenue models.
  • Guide less experienced staff as a senior research administrator.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and three or more years of relevant experience; and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor's guidelines.
