About the position

The Research Finance Analyst position at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) involves providing comprehensive analytical, financial, and training support for contract and grant proposal development, grant-writing, funding administration, and budget development. This role encompasses a variety of activities including pre-award proposal initiatives, management of funds post-award, and closeout activities for federal, state, local, and private sponsors. The analyst will engage in analyzing research funding trends and sources, forecasting, planning, and managing research portfolios. This includes coordinating, identifying, developing, and presenting proposals, contracts, and other agreements, as well as reviewing proposals to ensure compliance with institutional standards and program success. In addition, the Research Finance Analyst will be responsible for negotiating, administering, and monitoring contract and grant awards, ensuring compliance with regulations, terms, and conditions. Financial management and reporting are key components of this role, along with the issuance and administration of sub-awards and subcontracts. The position requires a strong understanding of grant funding processes, applicable regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles, as well as the ability to draft persuasive texts for various audiences. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy, and the position offers a flexible work environment, combining onsite and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide analytical and financial support for contract and grant proposal development.
  • Manage funds post-award and conduct closeout activities for various sponsors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related experience.
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, local, sponsor, and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
  • Understanding of compliance requirements related to human or animal subjects in research.
  • Strong writing skills to draft persuasive text for various audiences.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with a customer service focus.
