About the position

The Center for Veterans Research and Education (CVRE) is seeking a Research Health Coach to support innovative research and education initiatives aimed at improving the health and well-being of Veterans. The RAMP Research Health Coach will play a crucial role in delivering a telehealth program that teaches mind-body skills to Veterans, helping them manage chronic pain more effectively. This program emphasizes the connection between the mind and body, providing Veterans with tools and strategies to cope with pain through a structured coaching approach. The RAMP program involves collaboration with a health coach to create personalized plans based on individual goals, followed by 11 facilitated group sessions that include education and training. This initiative is funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) at the National Institute of Health (NIH). Additionally, the VAntage Research Health Coach will assist in delivering intervention phone calls as part of the Veteran Social Support Intervention for Enhancing Smoking Treatment Utilization and Cessation (VAntage Support) project. This project evaluates the role of social support networks in enhancing cessation treatment utilization among Veteran smokers, particularly those who may not otherwise seek treatment. The position requires adherence to ethical standards and compliance with HIPAA and other regulations governing research with human subjects.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver intervention program sessions according to a coaching manual approved by the Minneapolis VA IRB.
  • Track and communicate with participants throughout the study, addressing their questions and concerns.
  • Provide physical and electronic materials to participants as directed.
  • Ensure timely completion of regulatory documents related to the study.
  • Participate in data collection for approved research protocols.
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the coordinating team regarding participant progress and study updates.
  • Perform complex tasks, coordinate processes, and engage in decision-making as required.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in public health, sociology, psychology, or a related allied health field from an accredited college or university.
  • Specific education in health and wellness coaching is required.
  • At least 1 year of specialized research experience, or an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher if lacking experience.
  • Current certification as a Health and Wellness coach by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in coordinating multiple tasks and project elements with differing timelines and completion deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
