About the position

The Research & Knowledge Analyst position at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is a vital role within the Research & Knowledge Services team, located in the Washington D.C. office. This hybrid position involves conducting in-depth research and providing analytical support to attorneys and staff across various practice areas. The analyst will be responsible for creating awareness alerts, maintaining databases, and ensuring the continuity of services, all while leveraging new technologies to enhance knowledge management initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Research and provide information, analysis, and expertise to attorneys and staff in all practice areas.
  • Analyze legal, corporate, and general resources and communicate findings clearly.
  • Create current awareness and new business alerts.
  • Work with Knowledge Strategy Counsel to develop and maintain selected practice area databases and websites.
  • Assist with the evaluation and recommendation of new information resources.
  • Ensure continuity of Research & Knowledge Services operations during the manager's absence.
  • Support research and Knowledge Management (KM) initiatives for Firm attorneys and staff globally.
  • Perform cost-efficient ready reference and in-depth research using online and print resources.
  • Conduct effective reference interviews using question and answer skills.
  • Distill research results into clear and concise reports of findings.
  • Create and maintain custom information reports and new business alert services.
  • Organize, maintain, and update content for practice area websites and databases.
  • Facilitate access to and encourage effective use of internal and external knowledge resources.
  • Disseminate knowledge resources via Firm-wide intranet and databases.
  • Collaborate with practice group leaders to design effective KS websites and databases.
  • Establish relationships with attorneys to promote KS initiatives and solicit participation.
  • Provide full-service research and KM support when working remotely or in the office.
  • Evaluate new and updated versions of information resources and recommend beneficial sources.
  • Develop an information network within and outside the Firm.
  • Create subject guides, tip sheets, and training materials as needed.
  • Monitor email on firm-issued mobile devices while out of the office and coordinate with staff to complete pending requests.
  • Use workflow software for the distribution and recording of research and KM requests.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Expertise in using computer-based research tools such as Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, and others.
  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Close attention to detail.
  • Courteous and professional demeanor with a customer-service approach.
  • Proven ability in using web page editors.
  • Understanding of Knowledge Management principles, technology, and best practices.
  • Flexibility to travel and adjust hours as necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a legal or corporate information center.
  • Master's Degree in Library Science.
